Reflection

Experience

At the beginning of this module, typography was something totally new to me. I didn’t have much background in art or design, so I found it quite difficult at first. It took me some time to adapt, but once I got the hang of it, I started to understand the basics and how typography works.

As I learned more, I found this module quite fun. I didn’t know that typography could be expressed in so many creative ways. It really sparked my creativity and showed me that there are many different techniques to design with type. It made me see typography not just as letters or words, but as a way to tell a story visually.

This module also helped me become more disciplined. We had to record our weekly progress on Blogspot, and that pushed me to stay consistent. When I looked back at my earlier posts, I could clearly see how much I had improved. It was satisfying to track my growth and learn from my past work.

Even though I faced some tough times and challenges, they helped me become more resilient. I learned to keep trying and not give up when things didn’t go as planned.

Overall, this module taught me a lot, not just about typography, but also about creative thinking and self-discipline. I’m glad I had the chance to explore and grow through this experience.

Observation

After learning typography, I started to notice how much it exists in our daily lives on streets, signboards, product packaging, websites, and social media. I used to overlook these details, but now I pay more attention to the different styles and how type is used in various places. Sometimes I even stop to look closely at the letterforms and the small details that make each design unique.

Through this module, my observation skills have really improved. I’ve learned to spot what makes a typography design effective, like the use of spacing, alignment, contrast, and type choices. I’ve also become more aware of the difference between well-designed type and ones that don’t work as well. This new way of seeing things has helped me develop a better design sense overall, and I now appreciate how much thought goes into every piece of text we see every day.

Findings

Through this module, I discovered that typography is much more than just choosing a font. It involves understanding the balance between visual design and readability. I learned important concepts like hierarchy, alignment, spacing, contrast, and how these elements come together to create clear and attractive designs.

I also found that the process of creating good typography takes time, testing, and adjustment. Sometimes what looks good in my head doesn’t work as well in practice, and I had to learn to revise and refine my designs.

These findings have helped shape how I approach design. I now pay more attention to detail and understand how important typography is in creating effective visual communication. I believe the skills I’ve gained will be very useful in my future projects as a design student.
