Lighting Interactive Design - Assignment 2

Lighting Interactive Design - Assignment 2

This assignment requires us to build upon our Assignment 1 by creating a storyboard, narrative outline, and mood board to clarify and illustrate our concept idea. Since we already had a brief storyline for our projection mapping, we conducted a few discussions to refine it. By combining insights from our case study in Assignment 1, we developed a more mature, detailed, and convincing story for our projection mapping content. Every scene, along with each visual and audio element, has a purpose behind it. Together, they effectively convey the motive of our projection mapping content.

Consultation 3 (24/2/2025)

Due to my absence during the consultation, I received feedback from my group member's notes. Before the consultation, we discussed the details of our story, and everyone agreed on the direction of our storyline. We were glad that we all shared the same mindset and were willing to contribute our opinions to make the story not only visually horrifying but also impactful in raising awareness about the reality of school bullying. So, during this consultation, we shared our detailed storyline with him.

Feedback

  • Overall is fine!

So yeah, from what I heard from my groupmate, the storyline is fine. I was glad to hear this good news! Therefore, we started delegating tasks and worked on the storyline we all agreed on. However, when it came to the storyboard, some of us had slightly different aesthetic approach, so we had a short discussion on visual aesthetics and came up with these storyboard sketches.

Consultation 4 (2/3/2025)

In this consultation, we presented our progress for Assignment 2, including the storyboard. Some adjustments and paraphrasing were needed in our scene breakdown, particularly in the descriptions and emotional journey. Additionally, we received minor comments on the storyboard.

Feedback

  • Follow the template that given in the slide
  • Give description on the emotional journey of the audience: what audience feel throughout different scene
  • The elements in scene 1 and scene 2 might be too repetitive because using too much of same elements, can consider making different effects for the scene, or shorten the duration of the scene to avoid boredom.

These comments were valuable to us, and we immediately worked on them after receiving the feedback to refine our narrative outline and make slight adjustments to our storyboard. Although we faced some confusion and misunderstandings among our groupmates during the discussion, we managed to work together to resolve them. In the end, we successfully completed Assignment 2 splendidly!

Reflection

This assignment has deepened my understanding of creating a projection mapping content that conveys awareness to the audience. Our aim for this projection mapping is to provide a first-person perspective of a school bullying victim and, most importantly, to raise awareness of the issue. While considering the visual aesthetics, I also realized that every element shown on the screen carries meaning, allowing the audience to experience what it feels like to be a victim of school bullying and encouraging them to reflect. Additionally, I learned how to develop visual content ideas based on feedback from our lecturer, such as refining transitions and incorporating different visual elements to maintain engagement and avoid boredom. This process also encouraged me to visualize how the entire projection mapping would appear to the audience. I was initially worried that our idea might be too ambitious to complete within the next two weeks, but I believe that our group’s teamwork and chemistry will allow us to make it successfully!
