Performative Media - Final Project
Performative Media - Final Project
In this assignment, we were required to produce the final video for our projection mapping content and use HeavyM to create the projection mapping. For my content, I planned to create 2D animations by using Procreate to draw all the flat designs and then animate the content using CapCut and Blender. Kindly refer to my previous proposal of my projection mapping.
Here are some drawings I have made using Procreate. The art style is flat design, minimalist, and playful, with an eye-catching color scheme.

After finishing all my drawings and confirming the content of my projection mapping, I began animating. Initially, I wanted to animate all the elements in CapCut using the keyframes and effects it provides. However, it did not meet my requirements, so I animated some of the elements in Blender and then imported them into CapCut. Below are some of the elements that I have utilized Blender to make their animations.

With some elements animated using Blender, I rendered them and implemented them into CapCut. I also utilized the features provided in CapCut to make my animation more interesting. Although the animation made using CapCut may not be very professional due to its limited tools and my lack of experience with a 2D animation module, I will do my best to achieve the best outcome. Below is evidence of me using CapCut to create animation for the first time.

Here is my first attempt at animation. There are still some glitches that I need to fix to make the whole animation flow smoothly, but overall, the storyboard is already completed. I just need to make some improvements to make it visually appealing.

Areas to be improved:
- Add background music and sound effects according to my proposal
- Minimize the glitchy part
- Make the animation more fluent
- Add suitable transition or effect to make it more interesting
After receiving Mr. Yusri's advice, he said that it's okay if the animation is a bit glitchy. The most important thing is that the content we want to showcase to the audience is present. Therefore, I added background music and sound effects as mentioned by Mr. Yusri. I also completed my content by adding an ending, which includes messages from the public to spread awareness about protecting marine life. Below is my final outcome of my projection mapping content.

Then, I tried to use HeavyM to create the projection mapping on the Sydney Opera House. I imported an image of the Opera House into HeavyM and masked it with the video. Below is the outcome. However, after completing the tracing and masking, I realized that I could not export the video since I only have the free trial version. Therefore, I could only screen record in HeavyM to show evidence that I had attempted to use the projection mapping software. Below is the video evidence that I used HeavyM.

To showcase my projection mapping on the Sydney Opera House, I used CapCut and utilized its masking function to better illustrate how it would appear on the building. Due to some limitations of CapCut, the masking effect was not perfect, but it was sufficient for demonstration purposes.

Reflection
As a reflection, I have learned how to create projection mapping content and use actual projection mapping software to showcase my work on a building. There were some difficulties throughout the process, particularly during the content creation stage, where I struggled to make the content both interesting and meaningful. Additionally, the technical aspect of creating my content using different software was challenging, as this was my first time producing video content. Using a completely new projection mapping software was also a fresh experience, providing me with an opportunity to explore its capabilities. Despite these challenges, I have gained valuable knowledge, not only in technical skills but also in creative and critical thinking.
