Interactive Design - Project 1

Interactive Design - Project 1

The objective of this assignment is to develop a comprehensive proposal for the redesign of an existing website. The proposal should demonstrate our ability to critically evaluate a website’s design and functionality, and to propose design solutions that enhance user experience, aesthetics, and performance.

For this project, I have chosen Riverside Art Center, which is a website for an art center with an outdated format. The color scheme is unappealing, the text is small, and the overall layout lacks modern web design standards, such as responsive elements and easy navigation. Another reason I chose this website is that it is related to art, and I believe it has great potential for redesigning into a more aesthetic website.

Here is the link to Riverside Art Center 's website.

Below is my web analysis and redesign proposal for this website. This document consists of 45 pages, primarily includes the pain points, enhancements, and redesign concept ideas.

Reflection

This project has helped me understand that how a poor structured web design can affect user experience. By analyzing the website's shortcomings, I have learned what makes a website good. Creating an effective website involves more than just aesthetics, like colour, typography, layout. Functionality, responsiveness, and content are also very important. Ignoring any of these factors can negatively impact user experience.

Also, by analyzing the shortcomings of the website and proposing improvements, I have enhanced my knowledge of how to build a good website. Although my proposal is just a conceptual idea and has not been put into practice yet, I believe that the redesign can make a significant difference compared to the original website. It is not easy to come up with these modifications as each adjustment needs to have a rationale behind it. Improving the aesthetics is important, but the user experience regarding functionality and engagement must also be considered.
