Game Development - Project 1

In this assignment, we are required to come up with three game proposals for upcoming projects, which will involve manually coding in Unity. Before creating these proposals, I was inspired by three games, Pikuniku, Dan the Man, and Stardew Valley. Their art style, gameplay and mechanics are worthful to learn from.

Below is my game proposal. The three games I have proposed feature different storylines, gameplay mechanics, and genres. Personally, I am an enthusiast of action, adventure, and role-playing games. Therefore, I would prefer to create a game within these genres, focusing on a strong storyline and clear goals to make the game immersive. For the game's art style, I would choose either a minimalist or pixel art approach, as these simpler styles are more manageable for me. Since playability is more important than aesthetics, I would prioritize refining the game mechanics and controls to ensure the players' comfort and immersion.

Decision Making

After consulting with Mr. Razif, I’m glad that he accepted three of my proposals and allowed me to choose one of them. Below are some of the comments he provided:

  • All the game proposals are workable in terms of coding.
  • If you’re creating puzzle or mystery games, consider what types of puzzles you want to include and how the player will solve them, such as arranging items or solving a password.
  • For Ghost Escape, if the player who acts as the ghost touches an NPC, how will the NPC react? What are the measurable elements here?
  • As design students, we are encouraged to create the game design ourselves rather than using online assets.

Personally, I prefer the first idea Infinity, as the genre, storyline, and art style are the ones that I've always wanted to approach. However, compared to the other two games, Infinity is more complex, involving fantasy art design, animations for various combat styles, and creating imaginative landscapes. The other two games lean more toward puzzle-solving, with simpler art styles, animation, and coding, but I’m not very skillful at creating puzzles. After two days of consideration, I decided to go with Infinity, and I believe I can create the stunning game I’ve always wanted to make.

Infinity - Detailed Proposal

After deciding on my idea, I created a more detailed proposal. I changed the art style from pixel to a minimalist, dreamy look. I want players to focus on the beautiful landscapes, so the player character will be small, shown as a simple silhouette. Each level will have a different environment that tells its own story.
